China’s Palace Museum, striving to promote traditional Chinese culture, recently launched a lipstick collection featuring six colors on T-mall, an e-commerce platform under Alibaba.

Both the lipstick colors and the lipstick packages aroused a huge sensation on Chinese social media, and three of the collection colors were sold out soon after they were released.

The colors, including “Lang Yao glaze red,” “bean paste red,” “Tourmaline purple,” “Rose-purple,” “Mermaid pink,” and “Maple red,” were all inspired by the valuable relics collected by the Palace Museum.

Lang Yao glaze red

The package of this color is inspired by the costumes of the imperial concubines in the Forbidden City. The fairy cranes, lingzhi mushrooms as well as the traditional Chinese painting of water created an extremely elegant atmosphere.

Bean paste red

The package of this color also draws inspiration from the costumes of the imperial concubines in the Forbidden City. Blue, a simple color, had dozens of variations in ancient China, while the blue on this package was more preferred by the imperial women.

Maple red

Yellow was the most honorable color in ancient China, which represented sunshine and glory. It was also a color only for emperors and empresses. This package was designed upon the costume of the empress, delivering a sense of royalty.

Mermaid pink

Ancient Chinese always used “green” to describe the beauty of nature, and green naturally became another favorite color of the imperial family apart from red and yellow.

Rose-purple

Inspired by the traditional fans of the imperial concubines in the Forbidden City, the mysterious black package of the lipstick formed a magnificent picture with the flourishing chrysanthemums and flying butterflies painted on it.

Tourmaline purple

The color white embodies purity and elegance. The white package looks just like a world covered by snow where lucky deer are playing around the pine trees.

Besides, the Palace Museum also launched cosmetics with the “fairy crane” and “Tian-tsui (a style of Chinese art featuring kingfisher feathers)” series. Both series include different kinds of eye shadow, blush and lipstick. These original Chinese-style cosmetic products, inspired by the collections in the Palace Museum, feature both exquisite design and high quality. It is believed that they will soon sweep the market as they are so unique.

Chang’e-4: A mission to the far side of the moon- jbbwsmbntk652.bnestyle.com http://www.baidu.com/884/change-4-a-mission-to-the-far-side-of-the-moon/ Tue, 11 Dec 2018 05:25:08 +0000 /884/?p=6800 Continue reading Chang’e-4: A mission to the far side of the moon ]]> China launches Chang’e-4 lunar probe in the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwest China’s Sichuan Province, Dec. 8, 2018.

China has launched its Chang’e-4 lunar probe to explore the dark side of the moon, which will be the first soft landing on the far side of the moon in human history.

While one side of the moon always faces Earth, the other is in constant shadow and has remained largely unexplored, though it has been photographed extensively.

Zou Yongliao, head of the moon and deep-space exploration department under the Chinese Academy of Sciences, hailed the Chang’e-4 lunar probe launch as an immense achievement of our age.

About 100 detectors and orbiters have been sent to take photos of the moon since the 1950s, but no probe has made a soft-landing on the surface, he explained.

According to reports, during its multi-week flight to the moon, the probe will enter a lunar transfer trajectory and then orbit the moon, before making an autonomous soft-landing on the Aitken Basin of the south lunar pole.

The Aitken Basin has never been closely observed before. Therefore, getting first-hand information about the terrain and lunar soil components, as well as other scientific data, will help enrich human understanding of the moon.

The basin is the largest and deepest impact crater in the solar system. Wu Weiren, the chief designer of China’s lunar probe program and an academician with the Chinese Academy of Engineering, said the basin, with a depth of 12 kilometers, will help humanity explore the moon’s inner regions.

Additionally, the unique electromagnetic field and geographical conditions of the far side of the moon provide a favorable environment for low-frequency astronomical observations, noted Zou.

To date, China has launched four lunar probes, each carrying a unique mission. The country’s first lunar probe, Chang’e-1, was launched in 2007. Chang’e-2, which was launched in 2010, created a full lunar map with a resolution of 7 meters. Chang’e-3, launched in 2013, was the first Chinese spacecraft to soft-land on and explore an extraterrestrial object.

China adds stability by showcasing a responsible stance to safeguard multilateralism and enhance global governance, which was expressed by Xi during his 9-day trip to Europe and Latin America.

From Nov. 27 to Dec. 5, Xi paid state visits to Spain, Argentina, Panama and Portugal, and attended the 13th Group of 20 (G20) summit in Buenos Aires.

Currently, the world needs to get rid of the deep-seated influence of the financial crisis, quicken the pace to replace old growth drivers with new ones, and conquer social pressure that came along with technological and industrial revolutions.

Against this backdrop, the G20 is placed with the hope to continue adopting a strategic vision and play a leading role in safeguarding multilateralism and improving global governance.

Xi called on G20 leaders to fulfill responsibility and steer the global economy in the right direction, in a speech delivered at the G20 summit.

He said that G20 leaders should stay committed to openness and cooperation and uphold the multilateral trading system, forge strong partnership and step up macro policy coordination.

The Chinese President also called on the G20 leaders to stay committed to innovation and create new momentum for growth, and stay committed to win-win cooperation to promote inclusive global development.

Kept abreast with the change of the international situation, Xi’s proposals offer a solution to the current challenges and are conducive to strong, sustainable, balanced and inclusive growth of global economy.

It also played a key role in propelling the G20 summit to reach consensus on major international agendas and release a declaration.

China injects stability by working actively to push for benign relations between major countries.

During the G20 summit, the meeting between President Xi and his US counterpart Donald Trump was the focus of global attention.

The two presidents agreed to jointly work toward a China-US relationship tuned by coordination, cooperation and stability, and promote bilateral cooperation and exchanges in various fields for more outcomes.

The important consensus not only conforms to the interests of China and the US, but also to expectations of the international community.

China-Russia relations, special and developing at a high level, are a role model for relations between major countries. During the G20 summit, President Xi and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a meeting like they did on multiple multilateral occasions.

The two heads of state, in their talks, made plans to celebrate the 70th anniversary of China-Russia diplomatic relations next year, in order to lead their comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination to a higher level.

China contributes more stability by showing willingness to deepen partnership through cooperation. In the latest years, China’s closer cooperation with Europe and Latin America has given a boost to development of both sides, and expanded their global influence.

Xi’s visits to the above four countries have not only injected strong impetus into bilateral cooperation, but also created new engines for China’s cooperation with the two regions.

Xi’s trip has indicated that as China further deepens reform and expands opening-up, it is unleashing more development opportunities to the world, and countries are having stronger confidence in fostering partnership, and achieving win-win cooperation with China.

Thanks to Xi’s visit, Spain, Argentina, Panama and Portugal are more willing to join the Belt and Road cooperation, and their pragmatic cooperation with China is embracing a promising prospect.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez pointed out that Spain is laying more importance on Asia, especially China, which is opening itself wider to the world.

(Zhong Sheng, a homonym in Chinese for “voice of China”, is a pen name often used by People’s Daily to express its views on foreign policy.)

China’s rural areas, with 211 million recorded net users by the end of June 2018, have become a market from which e-commerce platforms compete to seize a larger share, Economic Daily reported on Dec. 4.

E-commerce platforms have already successfully infiltrated rural China. In the first half of this year, the sales volume in low-end markets increased by 30 percent, a much higher increase than in first- and second-tier cities, said an economics professor with Beijing Technology and Business University.

A recent report indicated that Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba now has 601 million active users, an increase of 25 million from last year, and most of these new customers come from less developed regions.

In August, e-commerce giant JD.com saw that 28 percent of new customers from its low-end marketplace were group buying.

“In the past three years, our users from third-tier cities and below have been growing. Users from five-tier regions or below account for 18 percent of our total subscribers and that percentage will keep rising,” said LinkSure Network, a Shanghai-based mobile internet company specializing in free internet access.

Rising web capabilities, fee reductions and convenience brought by the Internet are three significant reasons that users from low-end markets have become a new force online.

Wang Xiaoshu, rotating president of LinkSure Network, said young people from counties, towns, and villages are a strong force when it comes to online shopping because they have plenty of time and don’t have as much to spend as their peers in first-tier cities.

In 2017, the amount spent per person on Pinduoduo, an e-commerce platform allowing users to participate in group buying deals, was 567 yuan, while the average person using JD and Alibaba spent 3,107 yuan and 8,732 yuan, respectively.

E-commerce platforms are putting more efforts into studying the requirements of low-end markets.

The low-end market is not all about price. Brand, quality and after-sales service are also important factors that these consumers take into consideration, said Cao Lei, director of the China E-Commerce Research Center.

E-commerce platforms are looking for a balance between quality and price to meet the demands of the low-end market. For instance, JD plans to cooperate with 10,000 factories for direct supply, to develop competitive products and share the benefits with consumers in the most direct way.

Pinduoduo is eager to shake off its label of low price and low quality. In the third quarter of this year, the company’s spending on research and development increased to 332 million yuan, an eight-fold increase compared with the same period last year.

At a construction site at the estuary of Panama Canal to the Atlantic Ocean, growling gigantic marine equipment, caterpillar cranes, portal cranes and a 27-meter-long high-front shovel from China are busy with the expansion project of Margarita Island port.

China’s Shandong-based Landbridge Group started the expansion project in June 2017 after it purchased the port situated in Panama’s Colón Free Trade Zone in 2016.

Li Chao, a project engineer, said a port entrance was being built here as part of the expansion project for the Panama’s largest port.

With an estimated investment of about $1 billion, it is one of the largest projects in Panama invested by companies from the Chinese mainland. It is also the first container terminal designed and built to match the Panama Canal new locks.

The No. 3 container berth is scheduled to start trial operation by June 2019. By June 2020, the stage one will be operational, and the second stage of the project will start construction at the beginning of 2019.

After its upgrade, the port will have an annual handling capacity of 5 million twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) cargoes and become the only one there to boast 150,000-ton container berths. It will further satisfy the operation of the canal and the demand for water transportation. Landbridge Group plans to increase the handling capacity of the port to 11 million TEU cargoes per year.

The steady progress of the project is attributed to the development of China-Panama relations. According to Li, when they prepared for the project before the two countries established diplomatic ties, they had to wait for document approvals for months since the procedures to assess the project’s environmental impact and obtain the construction permits were very slow due to legal restrictions.

Several days after the project kicked off, the two countries announced the establishment of diplomatic ties, which brought the construction to a new pace. The city of Colon had provided concrete support for Landbridge Group in construction safety and the recruitment of workers, Li disclosed.

Alodiel, an official in Ministry of Labor and Workforce Development (MITRADEL) of Colon, said the Chinese company had created more than 2,000 jobs for locals, over 800 of which were related to construction jobs. Landbridge Group had provided a sound working environment for the workers and guaranteed their welfare.

“There is a big cultural difference between us that has occasionally led to disagreements, but nothing is unsolvable through effective communication. Landbridge Group has become a good friend of us,” said the official.

“I got along well with the Chinese colleagues here. In Landbridge Group there were staffs working on our welfare and labor and social security. Though the two countries were far apart, the hearts of the two peoples were bonded closely by the warm friendship,” Edwen Córdoba, a local employee, told People’s Daily.

Esteban Sugaste, representative of Single Trade Union of Construction and Allied Workers of Panama (SUNTRACS), said the Chinese people were passionate, united and diligent, and had respect on other people, adding that the Chinese enterprise was willing to exchange views with its Panamanian employees and listen to their voices. “The Chinese enterprise respects us and has won our respect as well.”

The port was highly automated, which would not only improve efficiency, but also guarantee the quality of services and reduce operating costs, Li said proudly.

Additionally, the port had an obvious advantage in cost and was very competitive, Li said, disclosing that in the future a logistics park would be built here, which had already attracted interested Latin American countries for cooperation.

Xi’s state visit to Spain is scheduled from Nov. 27 to 29, marking a milestone in the history of the two countries bilateral relations. His state visit will be the first to the country by a Chinese head of state in 13 years and also falls on the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Spain and China.

Spain looks forward to Xi’s visit and hopes it will be used to further explore the potential of bilateral cooperation, said Spanish Foreign Minister Josep Borrell.

Strengthening economic and trade ties with China has become a common aspiration of the Spanish business community, said Juan Pablo Lazaro, vice president of the Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations.

Spain and China are active advocates and defenders of free trade, said Juan Pablo Lazaro, adding that he hopes that enterprises in both countries will use this opportunity to further expand contacts and make more contributions to the two countries’ economic development.

Spain is an important participant of the Belt and Road Initiative and also one of the founders of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).

Spain is expected to take this opportunity to more actively participate in the construction of the initiative and further tap the potential of bilateral cooperation in trade, tourism, and culture, as well as to expand cooperation in third-party markets such as Latin America and Africa, according to Eugenio Bregolat Obiols, the former Spanish ambassador to China.

Spain is among the first EU countries to establish a comprehensive strategic partnership with China. Spain is presently China’s sixth largest EU trade partner and China is its largest non-EU trade partner.

China and Spain, located at the east and west corners of the Eurasia respectively, have enjoyed inseparable economic ties under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative.

Spain is China’s sixth largest trading partner in the European Union (EU), and China is the largest trading partner of Spain outside the EU. Last year, the trade volume between the two countries reached $30.94 billion, an increase of 7.5 percent year on year.

The enhanced China-Spain economic and trade cooperation has strongly boosted economic development of the two countries.

Spain, who has long been referred to as the “vegetable basket” of Europe and ranks second in EU in terms of agricultural land, is the third largest exporter of vegetables and fruits in the world.

With high-quality agricultural products, such as pork, olive oil, wine, beer, Spain is undoubtly an important source of China’s imports of fresh food.

“I had no idea that our ham could be so popular in China that our booth was crowded by people who are interested. We have every confidence in the Chinese market, and we believe that many companies will benefit from China’s development,” said Daniel de Miguel, international manager of Spanish pork association InterPorc Spain, at the first China International Import Expo (CIIE).

The CIIE offered an excellent opportunity for Spanish companies to showcase themselves, he said, adding that the Spanish brands had attached great importance to the Chinese market while pursuing internationalization.

Spain was the first European country to confirm its attendance at the first CIIE, said Lyu Fan, Chinese Ambassador to Spain.

In January, the China International Import Expo Bureau under the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, jointly held a road show with Spanish Confederation of Employers’ Organizations in Madrid, and many Spanish firms signed up for the event at the official website of CIIE immediately after the show, the ambassador disclosed.

Comprised of 49 companies, the Spanish team of exhibitors at the first CIIE was fully equipped. Covering an exhibition area of 1,250 square meters, these companies showcased a variety of goods including food, garments, consumer goods, intelligent and high-end equipment, emerging technologies and logistics services.

The first CIIE was an important opportunity for Spain to expand exports to China, expressed Enrique Fanjul, former Commercial Counselor of Spain in China, saying that expo increased Spain’s attention to the Chinese market, and helped Chinese consumers know the high-quality products and services of Spain better.

In the “Double 11” shopping festival in China, Spain ranked the second, following Russia, among all countries in terms of the number of orders made by foreign consumers via AliExpress, a Chinese e-commerce conglomerate Alibaba’s online global retail platform.

Compared with those of the previous year, the categories of products sold to the Spanish market rose by 250 percent, with hot sellers expanding from luxury fashion brands to furniture, 3C products, and home appliances. Meanwhile, the amount of online shops owned by local people in Spain doubled during the event.

Chinese e-commerce platforms have taken root and developed vigorously in Spain, enjoying continuous growth in market share. Today, with over 7.7 million registered users in Spain, AliPress is the biggest cross-border e-commerce platform.

The rapid development of Chinese e-commerce platforms in Spain has created more and more opportunities for Spanish products to be exported to Chinese market.

Inditex, a Spanish multinational fashion group, has seen an accumulative total of around 10 billion yuan (about $1.44 billion) in volume of business since the opening of flagship stores for its seven brands at Alibaba’s B-C online shopping website Tmall.com in 2014.

In 2016, JD.com, a well-known Chinese e-commerce company, signed a cooperation agreement with Spanish Institute of Foreign Trade (or ICEX), bringing Spanish enterprises selling agricultural products to the online market of China.

From 2015 to 2017, Spanish fresh products have created an annual growth of 120 percent in sales at Tmall.com.

If a mother in Madrid wants to surprise her children during holidays, she could just place an order with a mobile phone, and then get fine toys delivered from China in a few days, said Juan Pablo Lázaro, vice president of the Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations.

China’s e-commerce development was amazing, Lázaro expressed, adding that Chinese e-commerce platforms helped to bring more Spanish products to Chinese market faster, and at the same time madeSpanish consumers buy goods from China and around the globe conveniently.

The rapid development of Chinese e-commerce platforms meant huge market and benefits to both Spanish people and Chinese People, said Lázaro.

China and the United States, as two major influential countries, should shoulder important responsibilities in promoting world peace and prosperity, Chinese President Xi Jinping said at a working dinner with his U.S. counterpart Donald Trump in Argentine capital Buenos Aires, on Dec.1.

The two heads of state had an in-depth exchange of views on China-U.S. relations and international affairs of mutual concern in a friendly and open atmosphere, reaching important consensus which pointed the direction for China-U.S. relations in the time to come.

Sound China-U.S. relations, Xi said, are in line with the fundamental interests of the two peoples and the broad-based expectations of the international community.

U.S.-China relations were very special and important, Trump said, adding that it was in the interest of the two countries as well as the world that the United States and China, both countries of significant influence, maintained a good cooperative relationship.

The two presidents reached consensus on not imposing new additional tariffs and agreed to instruct the economic teams of the two sides to step up negotiations toward the removal of all additional tariffs and reach a concrete agreement that would result in win-win results.

The consensus will not only benefit the development of the two countries and the welfare of the two peoples, but also be conducive to the global economy’s stable growth. It conforms to the interests of all countries.

It is the first meeting between Xi and Trump since the latter paid a state visit to China in November last year, and also the first face-to-face communication between the two heads of state after they made two phone conversations to address China-U.S. trade tensions which started to escalate since this March.

The two presidents agreed to keep up close contacts with each other through visits, meetings, telephone calls and correspondences to continue providing guidance for bilateral ties, and to have further exchange of visits at an appropriate time.

The two presidents’ diplomacies play a strategic leading role in the development of China-U.S. relations. The benign interaction between the two heads of state has drawn a blueprint and pointed a clear direction for the sound development of China-U.S. relations.

For some time, there are negative voices in the U.S. regarding China and the general trend of the China-U.S. relationship has been the concern of the world. During the meeting, the two heads of state agreed that China-U.S. relationship had to and would be properly handled, and reached consensus to propel a China-U.S. relationship based on coordination, cooperation and stability.

The important consensus reached on developing bilateral relations will promote the two countries to meet each other halfway, jointly safeguard the healthy and steady development of China-U.S. relations and work for global peace and prosperity.

As the world’s top two economies, as well as the largest developed country and developing country, though the U.S. and China enjoy broad common interests and space for cooperation, also encounter divergences in some areas. Dialogues and consultations are the key to solve these issues.

The basis for cooperation can be expanded and the cake of common interest made big as long as the two sides stick to the spirit of mutual understanding and mutual accommodation on the principle of equality and mutual benefit and solve issues regarding bilateral relations through friendly negotiations.

The results of Xi-Trump meeting once again prove that there are more common interests between China and the U.S. than differences, and the two countries see greater demand for cooperation than friction. Both China and the U.S. are wise enough politically to develop bilateral ties on the basis of no conflict, no confrontation, mutual respect and win-win cooperation.

January 2019 marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of China-U.S. diplomatic relations. Over the past four decades, China-U.S. relations have generally moved forward steadily amidst ups and downs.

History and reality have indicated that cooperation is the best choice for both sides and win-win cooperation is the precondition for a better future.

The international situation is undergoing profound changes. Against this backdrop, China and the U.S. should follow the consensus reached by the two heads of state, proceed from the fundamental interests of the two peoples and that of people of the world to promote China-U.S. relations steadily toward a positive direction and bring more sense of fulfillment and sense of gain for the two peoples.

Giant pandas are the most popular animals at the Madrid Zoo Aquarium. Plenty of visitors come early to see these lovely creatures when the zoo just open in the morning.

The panda enclosure at the Spanish zoo is built in Chinese architectural style. Stories and information about giant pandas are posted in a corridor of the enclosure, and the enclosure also offers classes on giant pandas to visitors.

Giant pandas Bing Xing and Hua Zui Ba from China’s Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding arrived at the zoo in Sept. 2007 according to a 10-year agreement on panda research between China and Spain.

Four giant panda cubs were born during the couple’s 10-year stay at the Madrid Zoo Aquarium. At present, Bing Xing and Hua Zui Ba are living with their youngest daughter Chulina born in Aug. 2016.

The beautiful panda enclosure is an attraction for local visitors. An elementary school teacher surnamed Imagulado who took 59 students on her class to see the pandas, told People’s Daily that every year her school would take the students here to watch the pandas and receive on-site education of animal protection.

“Spanish students nowadays are having more and more interests in Chinese culture, and some of my students are learning Chinese and Chinese culture during their off hours,” she said.

The teacher believes that President Xi’s visit to Spain will further promote cultural exchanges between the two countries.

She believes that Chinese literature carries both wisdom and beauty.

The female sinologist’s name was mentioned by Chinese President Xi Jinping in his signed article published on Spanish mainstream media on Nov. 27.

“Contemporary Spanish sinologists like Alicia Relinque and Chinese hispanists are working tirelessly to bring our people the beauty of each other’s languages and cultures,” President Xi Jinping commented in such a way.

Relinque told People’s Daily that her love for Chinese language originated from her obsession with Bruce Lee’s movies and Chinese kung fu. She has entered into a new wonderland after learning Chinese characters, literature and culture, she said.

“Spanish people need to learn and understand China, which is important,” Relinque noted, “Many people said that I had foreseen the future long ago. ”In this regard, she explained, “What I had, has and will have is pure love for Chinese literature.”

“I’m very grateful for what has been brought to my life by the thing I love, and I thank China for that. To present Spanish readers the charm of profound and interesting Chinese literature is what I’m pursuing, and sharing these valuable spiritual treasures is also what I like to do and persist in,” the sinologist remarked. Currently, she is working on the translation of Chu Ci, an anthology of Chinese ancient poetry.

Relinque introduced that nowadays more and more Spanish people were learning Chinese language, literature and culture, which was had to imagine 10 years ago.

Now Spain is home to eight Confucius Institutes, and the number of students learning Chinese has exceeded 40,000, ranking the fist in Europe. In addition, more sinologists are entering the classrooms of Spanish schools, devoting themselves to the spreading of Chinese culture. Relinque believes that it is an important task for Spanish people to learn and understand China.

“Both China and Spain are countries with ancient civilizations and long history, which have established close cultural ties in history through the ancient Silk Road,” Relinque said.

Nowadays, China Cultural Center has been established in Madrid , and in turn, Instituto Cervantes has been established in Beijing. Compared with the past, communications between the two countries have entered an unprecedented period, Relinque noted.

“I believe these two countries will have a broader space of cultural communication in the future,” said Relinque full of expectation.

She smiles and shines with glamour in her eyes when it comes to Chinese language and China.
